How long have you been selling real estate?

While plenty of competitors will claim that their agency has 20 years of combined experience, be sure to check that that combined experience isn’t just 20 people with one year! Ask How long that agent has been selling for.

How long have you been selling real estate with your current company?

Be sure to check that the agent has built a network of potential buyers in the local area at a local company and isn’t newer to town than you are.

Can you show me your recent sales in my local area?

Years of experience are only as good as the sales that come with them and asking about what sales have recently been completed and looking at recent sales prices are a great way to gauge both the market and skill of the agent.

Can you provide me with your latest seller reviews?

Having a great communication and rapport with clients is oftentimes just as important to a sales process as a stream of buyers and slick marketing materials.

What would you recommend I do before the house goes on the market and why?

Familiarity with the local market means that agents are the best resources when it comes to knowing what buyers are looking for. If your agent isn’t familiar with these buyer preferences, they may recommend costly and stressful home improvements, when it would have sold as is.

How much is my house worth in today’s market?

Any good real estate agent should have extensive knowledge of the local area and what similar houses have been selling for. At your property appraisal you should be able to expect an honest price estimate as well as recommendations on minor changes to make to  increase the sale price.
